Dinornithidae - Moas

The species in this family are all extinct. They were found in New Zealand.

Moas were large, flightless birds with powerful, muscular legs. Moas were up to 10 feet tall and weighed around 500 pounds.

Moas probably became extinct sometime in the 1500s.

Moas were herbivores and probably disappeared due to forest clearing and hunting.
