Psophiidae - Trumpeters

There are six species in this family. They are all found in tropical forests in South America.

Trumpeers get their name from the loud, trumpet-like calls they make. They are sometimes kept around villages because they are very alert and will loudly call out if danger is near

Trumpeters are medium-sized birds with large, plump, humped over bodies; short, chicken-like bills; long necks and long legs with long toes.

They are better at running and walking on the forest floor than flying long distances.

They nest on the ground and eat insects and fruits.
