Leptosomidae - Cuckoo Roller

The cuckoo roller (Leptosomus discolor) is the only bird in this family. The cuckoo roller is found in forests in Madagascar and the Comoros Islands.

The cuckoo roller is 16-20 inches in length. It has a large, rounded head and a thick, conical bill. It has short legs and small feet.

Males are a soft gray with a black eye stripe. They have a black cap on their heads and metallic green shoulders. Females are brown with dark splotches on their chest.

The cuckoo roller spends most of its time in trees. It eats insects and small reptiles.
