Duckbill eels are found along the continential slopes in tropical and warm temperate waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Duckbill eels are bottom-dwelling eels. Most are around four feet in length and are grayish-brown. They have long, narrow heads and large mouths. Most species lack pectoral fins. They eat small fish and invertebrates. There are around 42 species in this family.
