There is only one living family in this order, Coliidae, which includes six species of mousebirds.

Mousebirds are found throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa. They are small, slender birds that grow up to about 15 inches (38.1 cm) long, including their long, thin tails. Most species are gray or brownish-gray and have short, stout bills and distinctive crests on their heads.

Mousebirds get their name from the way they scurry through branches like mice. They mainly eat fruits, berries, leaves, buds, flowers, and nectar. Their strong feet and sharp claws allow them to climb easily and even hang upside down while feeding.

These birds are highly social and are often seen in small flocks. They spend much of their time foraging, resting, and roosting together. Mousebirds are also commonly known as colies.
