Tapiridae - Tapirs

There are four species in this family. Three species of tapir are found from Mexico south to South America, and one species, the Malayan tapir, is found in Asia.

Tapirs are found in rainforests. The Malayan tapir is black and white. The other three species are gray or brown.

Tapirs have rounded rumps, wedge-shaped heads, short tails, and short, trunk-like snouts. They have three hoofed toes on their feet. Tapirs are herbivores.
